Description:
The Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) scheme is a student support scheme for all students.
The PAL sessions aim to help students prepare for assignments and exams, in addition to lectures and tutorials. Undergraduate students from second year onward (Peer Mentors) are recruited and trained to assist first year students.
PAL sessions are based on existing course materials e.g. lecture notes, handouts, workbooks, textbooks, etc, and provide the opportunity for students to get to know others in their course and get advice from senior students.

The academic writing sessions are a consultation service providing one-to-one tuition on all aspects of writing for academic purposes. Whether you are a beginner looking for a way to get started on an assignment or a more experienced writer looking for guidance on a particular writing issue, our sessions offer assistance from an experienced tutor.
The content of sessions will be determined by the needs of the individual students who attend, but can include any of the following:
Understanding assignments and questions
Assignment planning
Basic research
Essay form and argument structure
Writing analytically
Technical aspects of writing: grammar, syntax, paragraphing
Book in for a twenty minute session and, if necessary, you can come back for follow up consultations.
IMPORTANT:
The sessions will work best if you submit a sample of your writing in advance, such as a draft of an assignment you are currently working on or a marked assignment that has been returned to you and where you need help to interpret the feedback. However, you can also come for general advice on the early stages of assignment work.
The academic writing sessions are not a proofreading, test-marking, or assignment fixing service. You will be helped to understand issues and given advice as to how to proceed with your work.
