How to use Generative AI at DBS

In this guide, we will discuss the proper use of GenAI technologies, like ChatGPT, Write Sonic, and more in an academic setting.

GenAI creates weird content

This video is admittedly very strange. The reason it's on here is to demonstrate just how weird content created by generative AI can be. The same goes for your assignments and studies. If you are relying too heavily on generative AI like ChatGPT or Write Sonic or various others, your assignments can read as something as strange as this gymnastics video.

Your lecturers and assignment markers can identify when text from ChatGPT has been copied and pasted into your assignments because it reads very strangely. It is important that you are demonstrating that you have learned and you are showing off what you have learned in your assignment. If blocks of text are obviously taken from a generative AI platform, you will find yourself in Academic Impropriety which could result in your having to redo the assessment with a maximum mark of 40%. This guide and our workshop is here to help you avoid these pitfalls and to learn how to best use GenAI technologies to enhance your learning as opposed to offloading or avoiding learning. The flow chart below is helpful in determining if you are using GenAI correctly.
