Applying for Research Funding

Internal funding opportunities

DBS Research Grant Scheme
The DBS Research Grant scheme offers DBS faculty the opportunity to apply for a grant to pursue research that is in line with the DBS strategic objectives. There are ten grants available, each of which is valued at 37.5 hours off the teaching workload, or financial equivalent, for the recipient. Applications are blind reviewed and assessed by three external examiners and scored against a set of criteria that are detailed on the application form. Faculty whose applications meet the conditions and score in the top ten are offered a grant. The grant is used during the following academic term and cannot be carried over.

Conference Funding
DBS offers conference funding up to 500 euro per application for faculty to attend conferences. It is generally expected that staff will contribute to the conference and report back to the Practice Research Coordinator with outputs. These could include a publication but could also be an internal report on the conference for the Research Intranet. Funding is approved by the Applied Research and Practice Committee.

Internal funding requirement

All faculty that receive a DBS Research Grant are required to submit a version of the work to DBS eSource. DBS eSource is our open access multi-disciplinary institutional repository. It holds the full text of articles, conference papers, book chapters and more of DBS staff.
