Research Starters is a feature of EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) that quickly connects users to citable, authoritative summary articles on thousands of popular topics. Designed to enhance the research experience, Research Starters include links to relevant articles, images, videos, and audio clips.
If a Research Starter is available, it will appear at the top of the search results list. Please note that the Research Starters feature does not alter your search results list in any way.
From here, you can read the full text of the article or listen to the article using the Text-to-Speech feature. In addition, you can click the icons under the Tools menu to print, email, save, or cite the article.
Depending on your search term, the overview article may contain Related Information box with links to associated Research Starters. Clicking one of these links will launch the related overview article in a new browser window. Some articles also contain lateral links embedded in the full text. Clicking on a lateral link will take you to the related Research Starters record.
Finally, some Research Starters contain links to related audio clips or videos. For example you can watch a video showing the life cycle of a monarch butterfly. You can enlarge the video to full screen mode by clicking the diagonal arrows at the bottom right corner of the video box. If at any time you wish to return to the Basic Search screen, click the New Search link in the top toolbar.
