Understand the assignment

  • Read the assignment in full, as soon as you receive it.
  • Make sure you understand it thoroughly – ask your lecturer if you’re unsure.
  • If you have a list of essay titles, pick the one that interests you the most.
  • Use a dictionary to check word meanings - use specialist dictionaries for particular subjects.
  • There are no right or wrong answers.  Don’t worry about not answering the question correctly.  After careful and extensive research you will form your own opinion on the topic.
  • Break it down - what do you need to answer or do in order to complete the assignment?
