What can I borrow?

We have over 40,000 books and DVDs in the Library and Academic Hub, as well as over 30,000 eBooks, all available through our library catalogue.

How do I borrow?

To borrow books

Once you have all the items you wish to borrow:

  • Go to the self-checkout kiosk 
  • Place ALL the items in the designated area
  • Press “Borrow”
  • Tap your student card on the green square located on the right-hand side
  • Confirm if all items were scanned and their RETURN dates
  • Press finish

If you have any problems, please talk to one of the librarians at the desk.

To return books

Borrowed items can be returned:

  • Return boxes: There is one box outside the Library and another on the ground floor of Castle House.
  • Self checkout kiosk: In the Library, you can use one of the self checkout machines to return your books.

If you are reading an eBook, you don't have to return them! When you read a book online you can use it as much as you want - no checkout or return required!

If you download a copy of the book, you will have 24 hours and then the book will not be accessible anymore until you download the book again.

To borrow DVD's

Borrowing one of our DVD's the same as checking out a print book!

Did you know that the library has a portable DVD player that you can use in the library? Check at the front desk to learn more about how you can borrow it while you're in the library.

To return DVD's

The loan periods are: 3 days, 1 week and 2 weeks depending on the item.

When the books are in your possession it is your responsibility to return them on time and in the same condition. If books are missing/damaged please contact us immediately, we can then work with you to find a replacement.

Renewing

Renew your books

  • Go to Your Library Account  and log in with your DBS details.
  • Click on the check box next to the item or multiple items you want to renew and click on Renew All.
  • Use the Self-Service machines by calling in person

Renewal limits

The maximum renewal limit is 8 provided another reader does not require the item, in which case the item cannot be renewed.

Fines and Charges

Fines are charged for the late return of any overdue items  and borrowing rights will be suspended when charges exceed €10. All items are subject to reservation by another borrower. Our fine rates are:

  • Overdue item: 60c per day

Fines incurred from overdue items will normally only be waived in line with the circumstances described in our library fines exceptions policy. If you feel your circumstances match those within the policy please contact us to discuss waiving fines.
