This year's keynote speech will be delivered by Dr Michelle Flood, senior lecturer in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences at the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.
Michelle's background is in Pharmacy and Healthcare Management. She is also certified in User Experience Design. She was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholar award to conduct research at the Design Institute for Health at the Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin.
Michelle's research interests are on how combinations of human-centered design and traditional research methods can be applied to address complex or systemic issues in primary care. She is also interested in how design principles can inform health professions education.
This event is the first iteration of the Practical Applied Research Conference at DBS. The event was open to practitioners from Ireland and beyond. We are really heartened by the number of submissions received for this event and the diversity of age, nations, topics, and even formats that are being represented at this two day event.
We are delighted to receive submissions from Irish institutions such as St. Nicholas Montessori College, University College Dublin, and the HSE's Health Library. The international representation in the conference is very strong too with speakers from Bournemouth University, Kaplan Higher Education Singapore, and the Sheridan Institute of Higher Education in Australia.
The event provides a platform for students from DBS and beyond - to showcase some of the excellent work they have developed as part of their studies. Current and former students of DBS are involved in the event in a variety of ways such as delivering 20 minute presentations, submitting a research poster or delivering one of the five minute research proposal talks.
We would like to express our gratitude to all of the researchers, students, and faculty who have collaborated with us in organising this event. In particular, we are indebted to Dave Mackey for all of his technical support and Katie Ring for her work on the PARC logo.
